Frequently Asked Questions
Do you grow all of the produce?
The goal is to grow every bit of it ourselves.
If we ever have a crop failure that results in us needing to buy in a bit of produce that we'd feel bad about people not receiving we would potentially buy it from another local farm.
We promise to always be 100% upfront about any produce we didn't grow. Farming is a craft, and we believe the craftspeople doing the growing should get all the credit.
How much produce do I get each week?
We shoot for 8-10 items depending on conditions in the field. Each item is similar in size to an organic bunch at a grocery store. If you are worried about making it through that much produce we recommend our every other week options. Our produce lasts far longer than grocery store produce, so you have plenty of time to eat it and any time something is more perishable we will let you know.
What type of produce can I expect?
We grow 40 to 60 different crops in a year and that sometimes includes hundreds of different varieties of those crops. We are determined to find the absolute best crops out there and they get better every single year. You can expect lots of regular favorites like greens, carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers that taste better than anything you've had before. Every now and then we throw in something a little more exotic, but don't worry we always make sure to let folks know how to use it.
Where is your farm located?
16215 140th Pl NE, Woodinville, WA 98072. Please note that we don't have regular public hours. Farm visits are by appointment only.
Can I split my share with someone?
Absolutely. We just don't facilitate it. There are tons of great options to pay your friends like Zelle and Venmo. We are absolutely happy to send communications to multiple places so you all stay in the loop and you are always welcome to have anyone pick up your CSA share.
Where do I pick up?
You pick up at our farm so you get to see where all these great veggies come from. We are a short drive from Seattle and a short walk from downtown Woodinville. The address for the farm is: 16215 140th Pl NE Woodinville, WA 98072
When do I pick up my share?
CSA shares are picked up on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. once the season begins. Every Week CSA shares and Odd Week CSA shares start on the first Thursday in June. Even Week CSA members starts on the second week of June.
When can I join?
We start filling the CSA slots in November for the following year with the hope of filling before the CSA starts in June. We occasionally have mid-season openings but it is a rarity.
Why do I have to pay up front?
Being a farmer can be a bit like running a restaurant except every dish you make takes 6 months to prepare, you don't know if anyone ordered it yet, and your stove has a tendency to turn itself on and off for no good reason. The CSA model makes it more like preparing a meal that someone has ordered. It still takes 6 months and we still have an unpredictable stove, but having the confidence of a customer makes a massive difference.
Do you offer delivery?
We really want to. Unfortunately, we have some logistics to work out first. Running a delivery service and a farm is quite the undertaking. If this is something you would be interested in the future, please let us know!
Are you certified organic?
No. We follow all organic practices and as of 2022 we have never sprayed ANY organically approved herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides. We're not entirely opposed and don't judge those who do, but we're firm believers that we should only use them if we have a really good reason to, and for three years we've managed just fine without them. That means our food, environment, and bodies are all healthier for it. How are we able to do this? Well we rely on a complex and diverse crop plan along with well selected varieties from the best breeders in the country and a lot of hand labor and physical barriers. Do we end up with some pest damage and a few stray weeds? Yes! But they end up being just small players in our whole farm ecosystem, and that is ok with us!
Do I have to commit to the whole season?
Yes. In the future we hope to offer a selection of shorter season CSAs, but we haven't been able to tackle that yet.
What if I don't like something or have allergies?
Our CSA is best for adventurous eaters. To keep things simple we won't remove produce ahead of time or make substitutions. If you absolutely won't eat something you are welcome to leave it with us and we'll find it a new home. Better yet, make a new friend and give it to them. Who doesn't like produce?
What happens if I miss a week?
We don't currently offer refunds for missed weeks so please make sure your share can be picked up every week. If you go on vacation or get stuck at work you are always welcome to have someone pick up your share for you. Any shares that aren't picked up within the pick up window will be recollected and we'll try to find a home for them as best we can (usually through a food access organization).
Can I choose what goes in my share?
We don't offer share customization so our CSA is best for folks that like variety and eating adventurously.
How do you handle weather or crop failures?
Every year is a bit different so the exact quantity of produce that goes out can vary. Being parts of a CSA means sharing in the ups and downs. We try to get around this by growing a huge variety of produce, but there could be years when we lose all of our tomatoes or another key crop. If that happens we try to buy in fresh produce from another farmer to fill that gap and we will always let you know when that's the case.
Can I visit the farm?
We love having folks out to visit the farm, but please know that it's by appointment only. Farming is incredibly demanding, especially in peak season so we need to focus on keeping our hands in the dirt.
Why so expensive?
I promise you, if you worked as hard as we do to grow this produce, you would think otherwise. We hand grow our produce to the highest standards on some of the most expensive agricultural land in the world. The price for our weekly CSA is meant to approximate what you would pay at our farmers market booth, except you are getting the produce in its peak state. Ultimately, we try to be cost competitive with organic grocers like Wholefoods but we absolutely stand by the fact that our produce is far superior in flavor, longevity, and environmental impact. Our model doesn't rely on paying incredibly low wages to workers, government subsidies, or degrade our shared environment. What you are seeing is the true cost of produce and we think that even at that cost it's more than worth it.
